Nestled on a hill overlooking Launceston, this beautiful century old home is being brought back to life by Anthony and Leeroy, a visionary couple intent on shaping a new lease on life for Wahroonga. The name Wahroonga, given to the house in the very early 1900s, has its origins in the Kuringgai languages of New South Wales and translates to ‘our home’. The house has stood looking over Launceston for over one hundred years, and slowly but surely, the sturdy old bones of this majestic home are being revitalised, with the stunning self contained accomodation on the lower ground being the first piece of the puzzle.

As we made our way up the footpath we gazed above in awe at how grand this building was, and stepping through the door we suddenly felt as if we’d miraculously been transported to Europe. The enormous painting hanging over the bed is a sight to behold, glowing in the sunlight and feeling almost like another dimension to be lost in. The bay windows (painstakingly installed by Anthony and Leeroy) allow warmth from the sun to flood in from every angle and gave us a peaceful view of the city bustling on.

The room has two alcoves set into the wall, housing a kitchenette with everything we needed to cook and be fully self sufficient, and so thoughtfully stocked with a treasure trove of things. The bathroom has two gorgeous arched mirrors above dual sinks and a huge, luxurious shower. We visited Launceston during a cold snap and thankfully the fire here was deliciously toasty.

Within walking distance or a short drive to the main city strips, Wahroonga on Bourke is a perfect home base for exploring Launceston. We moseyed about the Saturday Harvest Market, snuck in a visit to QV Mag, and cafe hopped until we were buzzing on caffeine. Our favourite discoveries were Bread and Butter, and Havilah.

Wahroonga on Bourke is now open for bookings.
